Project:
The goals of this long-term study are to determine the population status and ecological role of the Cascade red fox (Vulpes vulpes cascadensis), to understand the effects of climate change on this rare, alpine carnivore and its habitat, and to inform management actions that may promote its long-term persistence. We are estimating abundance of the South Cascades population, assessing gene flow across the landscape, and investigating the effects of a warming environment on fine-scale prey selection and intraguild competitive dynamics in montane ecosystems throughout Washington’s Cascade Range.
